Waltz: Hamas Disarmament Would Open a “Bright New Chapter” in Gaza’s History
International Voice – April 28, 2026
U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that “the moment Hamas agrees to disarm, a bright new chapter will be written in Gaza’s history.”
Waltz added that there is a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s reconstruction and development, saying that funding is available and that partners ready to participate in rebuilding are in place.
He said the path toward peace has been paved, security restrictions have been eased, and the way toward prosperity is open.
Waltz said Hamas is the party obstructing progress in Gaza, adding: “If we do not succeed in getting Hamas to disarm — which requires all of us to pressure it to carry out the disarmament process and abide by the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza that they previously agreed to — we may not have an opportunity like this again, at least for the foreseeable future.”
He said the United States would continue supporting the “Gaza stabilization force” in its efforts to enable an end to the conflict and create the conditions necessary for governance and stability in the territory.
